Xcel Energy Foundation supports STEM scholarships for SPC students
LEVELLAND – Six South Plains College students are benefiting from a $7,000 scholarship grant from the Xcel Energy Foundation for the fall semester.
The grant provided impact scholarships to the South Plains College Foundation to support student achievement and completion in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“South Plains College plays a key role in preparing our future workforce, which in turn helps us improve our communities and create a better quality of life on the South Plains,” said Ben Jaime, Xcel Energy manager for Community and Economic Development. “In order to carry out this important work, they need the business community’s support in ensuring all our young people can further their education, which is why the Xcel Energy Foundation continues to support scholarships at SPC. These students are an investment in our future.”
The funds given to South Plains College have provided $1,000 scholarships to these students who are studying pre-engineering and computer science for the 2023–24 academic year.
The scholarship recipients are Kelly Nunez of Lubbock, a computer science major; Sebastian Brown of Plains, a pre-engineering major; Alejandra Villarreal of Lubbock, a computer science major; Lauren Lambert of Abernathy, a pre-engineering major; Justin Donahoo of Lubbock, a computer science major; and Zaevory Vela of Lubbock, a pre-engineering major.
