Spaces available for summer swimming at SPC Natatorium
LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Natatorium seeks participants for a new session of classes starting June 21. Enrollment is limited for each class which will cost $70 per person.

Classes will meet for 50 minutes Monday through Thursday for two weeks. If anyone feels sick, do not enter the pool area. Only one person per swimmer is allowed to come upstairs to observe the swimmers.
Students enrolling in Beginner Swimming must be at least 6 years-old (no exceptions). They will be taught swimming on their front, back and floating. Times and dates are:
June 21 – July 1 9-9:50 a.m.
June 21 – July 1 11-11:50 a.m.
July 12 – July 22 11-11:50 a.m.
Advanced Beginner is for students who have passed beginner swimming. Students will learn elementary back strokes, diving and improve crawl strokes.
June 21 – July 1 10-10:50 a.m.
July 12 – July 22 10-10:50 a.m.
Intermediate Swimming is for students who have passed advanced beginner. Students will learn breast and side strokes.
July 12 – July 22 9-9:50 a.m.
Adult Beginner class is for anyone 14 years of age or older who wants to learn to swim. Learn the basic skills for survival.
July 13 – July 29 7:15 – 8 p.m.. on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Parent/child class is for young children ages 6 months to 6 years. Non potty-trained youngsters must wear rubber pants or swim diapers. Adults must accompany each child in the water. The emphasis of the class is water adjustment and interaction between parent and child. Older children will be progressed through swim skills. Classes will meet for 30 minutes. Cost is $35.
Monday and Wednesday July 12 – July 28 1-1:30 p.m..
Tuesday and Thursday July 13 – July 29 6:40 -7:10 p.m..

The Natatorium also offers Community Classes for $70 and register the day of the class. The Early Bird Swim, non-instructional for lap swimmers only, meets from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Aug. 6; the Shallow/Deep Water Aerobics, non-instructional, from 7:15-8 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays through Aug. 6; Arthritis from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday through Aug. 6; and Water Aerobics from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.. on Tuesdays and Thursdays June 21 through Aug. 5.
The pool will remain open through Aug. 6. The pool will be closed July 5 (Monday). To swim at the SPC Natatorium during open swim, everyone must be a member or a guest of a member. Open swim will be Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m.. to 5 p.m.. Lap swim times are from noon to 1 p.m.. Monday through Friday as well as 5 p.m.. to 6:30 p.m.. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Membership rates are for individuals – $75 for summer or $150 year; couple (husband/wife only) $100 summer or $200 year; family (mom/dad/two children) $150 summer/$300 year - $25/$50 each additional child; SPC Staff is free; SPC family is $75 year; Hockley County seniors and Fitness Center members are free; and guest fee is $5 (must be with a member) and the limit is 2.
Private parties also can be arranged. The total cost of a two-hour party for up to 40 people is $150. At least one week prior to the party, a $50 non-refundable deposit must be paid at least a week before the party and reservations can be made during open swim time. The remaining $100 is due on the day of the party.
The South Plains College Natatorium needs students to serve as lifeguards and supervise the pool for the new session starting June 21. Lifeguards must be certified with CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard certificates. The lifeguards will work around the summer class schedule.
If a lifeguard does not have a certificate and he or she is a good swimmer who can swim 300 yards breast stroke and crawl stroke, a certification can be obtained before summer sessions begin, by texting interest to 806-638-6754. A final course will be offered.
