SPC Physical Therapist Assistant Program seeks applicants
LEVELLAND – South Plains College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program will begin accepting applications for the Spring 2021 class. Applications will be accepted starting June 1, 2020. The submission deadline is Oct. 16, 2020.
The 18 top candidates chosen from the qualified applications pool will be offered a position in the program.
The SPC Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is an important member of the vital profession of physical therapy. PTAs are licensed health care providers that work under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. PTAs are required to complete a two-year associate degree and pass the licensing exam for certification. Students must be licensed to practice in most states.
According to Jackie Underwood, program director and assistant professor of physical therapist assistant, “Students are provided with step-by-step instructions on how to complete the application process through the college’s website.”
Underwood encourages students to review the process to prepare for the June 1 start date. The application can be found at www.southplainscollege.edu. Under the Explore Programs button, find the Health Occupations drop down menu on the right side of the page. Click on Physical Therapist Assistant link to open the program’s landing page. Then select the Applying to the Program link located in the gray box on the right side of the page to begin the process.
“This program is ideal for non-traditional students,” she said. “In today’s climate, current working professionals can find an alternative career path in the health care industry in just two years.”
PTA care may include teaching patients/clients exercise for mobility, strength and
coordination; training for activities such as walking with crutches, canes, or walkers;
massages; as well utilizing physical agents and electrotherapy such as ultrasound
and electrical stimulation.
