South Plains College honors fallen peace officers

LEVELLAND – South Plains College hosted the annual Peace Officer Memorial Wednesday (May 2) at the entrance to South Plains College. The event honors law enforcement officers whose lives were lost while serving and protecting citizens across the United States.

More than 128 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in 2017 with 15 officers in Texas. Chief Albert Garcia of the Levelland Police Department delivered the keynote address.

Among the honorees was Deputy Jason Fann. He graduated from our evening academy in July 2016, and he was attending academic courses toward his Associate’s Degree at the time of his death. Fann was killed in an on-duty vehicle accident while responding to a call for service on Aug. 5, 2017.  His family attended the ceremony and were presented a special plaque in his honor.
