SPC slates annual Peace Officer Memorial at 10 a.m. on May 2
LEVELLAND – The annual Peace Officer Memorial is slated for 10 a.m. May 2 (Wednesday) at the entrance to South Plains College.
The event pays tribute to law enforcement officers whose lives were lost while serving and protecting citizens across the United States. More than 128 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in 2017 with 14 officers in Texas.
“We honor the fallen by training the living,” is the motto of the South Plains College Law Enforcement Technology program.
The speaker this year is Chief Albert Garcia of the Levelland Police Department. Garcia is a former employee of the Levelland Police Department, starting his law enforcement career in 1995 after graduating from South Plains College. He served as the police chief in Littlefield for the past two years. He started his current post on June 26, 2017.
The SPC Law Enforcement Honor Guard will perform a 21-gun salute and Taps. Also, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard will conduct the Flag Ceremony. Michael Morgan of the Lubbock Airport Police Department will play the bagpipes.
