SPC slates annual Peace Officer Memorial at 10 a.m. on May 3
LEVELLAND – The annual Peace Officer Memorial is slated for 10 a.m. May 3 (Wednesday) at the entrance to South Plains College.
The event pays tribute to law enforcement officers whose lives were lost while serving and protecting citizens across the United States. More than 140 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in 2016 with 25 officers in Texas.
“We honor the fallen by training the living,” is the motto of the South Plains College Law Enforcement Technology program.
The speaker this year is Captain Scott Hudgens of the Lubbock Police Department. He has been with Lubbock PD for more than 30 years. Capt. Hudgens has served as a member of the SPC Law Enforcement Technology Advisory Committee since 2007 and he is currently the chairperson of the committee.
The SPC Law Enforcement Honor Guard will perform a 21-gun salute and Taps. Also, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and the Lubbock Fire Marshal Pipes and Drum Corps will participate in the service.
For more information, contact Dr. Lance Scott, chairperson of Professional Services and Energy and associate professor in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Technology, at (806) 716-2558.
