SPC Lubbock Center to offer Memoir Writing course in February

 

LUBBOCK – The South Plains College Lubbock Center will offer a four-week community course on Memoir Writing from 6:30 p.m.. to 8:30 p.m.. beginning Feb. 6 (Thursday) in Room 113. The cost of the class will be $40 per person. 

The class also will meet on Feb. 13, Feb. 20 and Feb. 27. 

Some of the first stories human beings ever shared with others were simple accounts of people’s lives. Throughout history, the memoir has served as a reflection of humanity and a written record of individual experiences. This course will help participants focus on writing inward and provide the necessary tools to tell their stories. 

The course also will focus on how memoirs differ from other forms of writing such as fiction, personal essays and autobiographies. Participants will explore different strategies for recollection and reflection as well as review techniques for narrative point of view, description, character creation, dialogue, conflict and resolution. 

The instructor will be Dr. Roy Bearden-White, associate professor of English. No textbook will be required, however, a list of optional recommended texts will be distributed.
