2025 SPC Elite Student Showcase to feature Maddie Rose

LEVELLAND – South Plains College commercial music student Maddie Rose will perform at the third-annual Elite Student Showcase at 7 p.m. on April 10 at the Tom T. Hall Production Studio in the Creative Arts Building on the Levelland campus. The public is invited to attend this free concert, which Rose will organize with the help of SPC faculty and students.

Rose, a country-folk singer and songwriter from Newark, Texas, said her concert, “Under the Same Stars,” will consist of stories and original songs about her life milestones. The title is based on the idea that a person is never too far from the special people in their lives.

“I have been writing music since I was 8 years old,” she said. “I’ve been writing down my thoughts and stories since then.”

Rose’s music, including two singles named “Smooth” and “cowboy you deserve,” is influenced by her mother, The Lumineers, Flatland Cavalry, Sierra Ferrell, Gregory Alan Isakov and many others. She said the concert is a great opportunity to showcase her as a performer and creatively challenge herself.

“This production process has already taught me so much,” she said. “I’m learning how to write my own charts and put together a band.”

As she prepares for graduation in Fall 2025, Rose said organizing the showcase will be one of her greatest moments at SPC. She said planning the concert differs from her previous experiences singing on stage and working with bands.

In 2022, Rose won the Texas Country Music Association Young Artist award. At the ceremony, she met Cleto Cordero, band leader and chief lyricist of Flatland Cavalry, who connected her with record producer Scott Faris at the Amusement Park Recording Studio in Lubbock.

Faris recommended SPC as a next step for Rose, who later enrolled at the college in Spring 2024 after graduating early from high school.

“I moved here and had a great first semester,” she said. “I was in the Jukebox Ensemble, the Western Swing ensemble and many other ensembles.”

Regarding her time at SPC, Rose said she has met many creative people and appreciates the opportunities she has gotten. She said she is excited to interact with the attendees at this year’s showcase.

“Never have I really been a band director,” she said. “South Plains College has taught me a lot about that, so I’m glad I’m putting that into practice for the Elite Student Showcase.”
