SPC Natatorium to offer lifeguard course
LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Natatorium will offer the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course beginning May 23. The cost of the class is $200.
The course starts May 23 from 2 to 6 p.m..; May 25 from 2 to 6 p.m..; and May 26 from 2 to 6 p.m.. Outside class study is required.
If a lifeguard does not have a certificate and he or she is a good swimmer, a certification can be obtained before the first summer session begins.
Participants must be 15 years-old and able to continually swim 100 yards, crawl for 100 yards and breast stroke for 100 yards for a total of 300 yards non-stop. Students must be able to complete a timed 40-yard swim while carrying a 10-pound brick. Prerequisite swimming skills will be tested at the beginning of class.
Upon successful completion of the course, lifeguards will receive American Red Cross CPRPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications.
