South Plains College gala to feature exceptional items in live, silent auctions
LEVELLAND – South Plains College 22nd Annual Scholarship Gala is slated for 6 p.m.. Feb. 28 (Friday) in the Mallet Event Center. The gala will feature live and silent auctions, a unique raffle, and the return of the popular Kendra Scott “pull.” All items in these portions of the event were donated by Levelland and Lubbock community members and businesses.
The Auctions and Raffle committee, which is comprised of SPC employees and community volunteers, is responsible for seeking item donations for the event. Committee members began gathering items in October 2019. In addition to obtaining auctions and raffle prizes, they also work to creatively display the items for bid at the event.
This years’ committee members are Suanne Alexander, Kristin Bingham, Judy Bryant, Lisa Delgado, Julie Gerstenberger, Shelby Lewis, Tania Moody, Dee Dee Odorizzi, J’Lyn Poage, Robyn Reaves, Deborah Saenz, Sarah Stracener and Stephanie Smith.
“This committee really is a labor of love,” said Stephanie Smith, alumni coordinator at SPC and chair of the committee. “These ladies share their time, efforts and resources in order to be sure that we have plenty of wonderfully unique items to feature during the gala. It’s much more than going out and asking for items. All year they keep an eye out for unique items, new trends and one-of-a-kind prizes to guarantee we have something that will be appealing to all of our guests!”
This year, the live and silent auctions will feature items such as an autographed Willie Nelson Guitar, a trip for two to Las Vegas, Nev., a SPC Street Sign Renaming for a year, a chess set from Budapest, Private Wine Tasting for two and a gift basket from Bolen Vineyards, handmade SPC Cornhole Set, Vortex Binoculars, Flowers for a year, Moissanite Stud Earrings and an autographed Chris Beard basketball.
This years’ raffle will include chances to win a Roomba, free Racer Classic Car Washes for a year, Little Caesars pizza for a year and a Glock 44 .22 LR pistol.
“You’re sure to find something that will catch your eye,” said Smith. “From a ‘Weekend at Grandma’s’ prize package to Pizza for a Year, we’ve got a little something for everyone.”
Silent Auction bidding is encouraged throughout the entire evening. SPC Campus Ambassadors will serve as assistants to those guests who would like to place bids while remaining at their table.
“We strive to make this event a success because we are all here for one common goal. And that, of course, is to help make dreams become realities for students at South Plains College,” said Smith. “With each bid, donation and gift, you are impacting these students who will ultimately grow into the leaders who will impact our community.”
