SPC slates NRA Home Firearm Safety class on Saturday

                                               

LEVELLAND – South Plains College will offer an NRA Home Firearm Safety class on Saturday (Feb. 25) in Room 115 of the Law Enforcement Technology Building. The class will begin at 9 a.m., with breaks every hour and a one-hour break for lunch. 

This is an excellent course for anyone who is new to firearms and wants to be able to handle a pistol, rifle or shotgun safely, anyone who is considering buying a firearm or has inherited one, or anyone who has both children and firearms in the home. 

The class covers safe gun handling, the primary causes of firearms accidents, firearm parts, how to load and unload rifles, shotguns and handguns (using clearly identified dummy ammunition). Other topics include ammunition components and types, cleaning, care, safe storage of firearms in the home and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and Basic Firearm Training Program brochure. 

This is a four-to-five-hour course for safe gun handling is conducted in the classroom only. It does not include firing guns. The cost of the course is $65, and students need to register and pay in advance. Because so much of the course is hands-on, space is limited to 10 students.
