SPC Lubbock Career and Technical Center to offer EKG Technician class on June 7-Aug 16
LUBBOCK – South Plains College Lubbock Career and Technical Center will offer an EKG Technician class starting on June 7 (Monday) from 6 to 9 p.m.. The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at the SPC Lubbock Career and Technical Center, 3907 Ave. Q. The cost is $500, and a maximum of 15 students will be accepted. The textbook is “EKG Plain and Simple 13th Edition.”
This introductory course is designed for individuals who want to work in the health care industry in a more advanced position. A basic knowledge of hospital protocol and medical terminology is recommended but not required. This course includes fundamentals of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system, basic EKG procedures, interpretation of basic dysrhythmias and a brief look at treatment.
This demanding course requires an intense commitment to learning and understanding the complex concepts associated with the cardiac system. It is designed to prepare students to take the NHA CET Certification Test. Homework on a daily basis will be necessary. The practicum will be conducted during the last three days of class.
Optional study guide materials written by the instructor will be available for purchase.
IMPORTANT: Students will not be allowed to register or pay for this class without all meeting all of the requirements. Criminal background checks will be performed on all students. No refunds will be given for criminal background checks.
Participants must complete the SPC CE application at www.southplainscollege.edu/community/continuinged.php and register for the class. New students must create an account while existing students can log-in. Students are required to bring a valid driver’s license and social security card bearing the same name on each document. These documents cannot expire before the end of the class.
Additional requirements include all shot records with proof of immunization for MMR two shot series or TITER; TB Test not older than one year prior to the first day of class; Tetanus not older than 10 years prior to the first day of class; Hepatitis B Series (Number 1, Number 2 and Number 3) or Titer (HEP B Titer required if student cannot find shot record or is currently in the middle of the series); Varicella or proof of chicken pox and a flu shot for all students enrolled between Oct. 1 and March 31.
