SPC Workforce Development to offer EKG Monitor Tech class on March 18, 2019
LUBBOCK – South Plains College Workforce Development will offer an EKG Monitor Tech course from 6 p.m.. to 9 p.m.. on Mondays and Wednesdays starting March 18 (Monday) at the SPC Lubbock Career and Technical Center, 3907 Ave Q. The class will meet in Room 129B. The course, which is limited to 15 students, will run through May 22, 2019.
This introductory course is designed for individuals who want to work in the health care industry in a more advanced position. A basic knowledge of hospital protocol and medical terminology is recommended but not required. The course includes fundamentals of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system; basic EKG procedures; interpretation of basic dysrhythmias; and a brief look at treatment.
This is a demanding course that requires an intense commitment to learning and understanding the complex concepts associate with the cardiac system. It is designed to prepare students to take the NHA CET Certification Test included in this program. Homework is assigned on a daily basis. The practicum will be conducted the last three days of class.
The cost is $500, and the cost of the textbook up to $125. Instruction includes 36 hours of classroom time.
Students are required to bring a valid driver’s license and social security card. Additional requirements include all shot records with proof of immunization for MMR two shot series or TITER; TB Test not older than one year prior to the first class day; Tetanus not older than 10 years prior to the first day of class; Hepatitis B (Number One, Number Two and Number Three) or TITER); Varicella or proof of chicken pox and a flu shot. A background check will be performed on each student enrolling in the class.
