SPC opens registration for auctioneering, cybersecurity courses
LUBBOCK – South Plains College Continuing Education and Workforce Development has opened registration for two courses starting this spring: auctioneering and cybersecurity.
To renew an auctioneer license under current statutory requirements, an auctioneer or associate auctioneer must complete six hours of continuing education in courses approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. SPC’s auctioneering course will meet the statutory requirements for auctioneer continuing education contained in 16 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 5.
Prospective students can visit https://www.southplainscollege.edu/auctioneering/index.php to access the Continuing Education application. A photo ID is required to apply for the $85 course. The spring class will be from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 1 in Room 129B at the SPC Lubbock Career and Technical Center. Future courses are scheduled for June 7 and Oct. 4.
In the cybersecurity course, students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to protect an organization’s information assets. The class is designed to teach students about a gamut of information from identity theft and cyber fraud to safe browsing and data protection.

“Cyberthreats to an organization’s infrastructure are at an all-time high,” Ben Alexander, executive director of the Lubbock Career and Technical Center and Workforce Development, said. “Advanced cybersecurity training is a valuable asset for individuals entering the workforce or those already in the workforce seeking to increase their knowledge.”
