South Plains College will host two commencement ceremonies on May 12
LEVELLAND – South Plains College will host two 2017 commencement ceremonies on Friday (May 12) in the Texan Dome.
The first ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. for students receiving Associate of Arts in the Division of Arts and Sciences; Associates of Applied Science and Certificates for Associate Degree Nursing and Vocational Nursing in the Division of Health Occupations; and Associates of Applied Science and Certificates in Commercial Music, Design Communications, Cosmetology, Electrical & Power Transmission Technology, Fire Technology, Law Enforcement Technology, Sound Technology, Video Production Technology and Welding Technology in the Division of Technical Education.
The second ceremony will start at 1 p.m.. for students receiving Associate of Science and Associate of Arts in Teaching in the Division of Arts and Sciences; Associates of Applied Science and Certificates in Applied Rehabilitation Psychology, Child Development, Emergency Medical Services, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology in the Division of Health Occupations; Associates of Applied Science and Certificates in Accounting Associate, Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive Technology, Business, Computer Aided Drafting & Design, Diesel Service Technology, Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Industrial Manufacturing/Emerging Technologies, Office Technology, Paralegal Studies and Real Estate in the Division of Technical Education; and all majors in Dual Credit.
Approximately 445 candidates for graduation will participate in the morning ceremony and 437 candidates will participate in the afternoon ceremony.
South Plains College will reinstate the tradition of students walking between the lines of faculty members at each ceremony. SPC will award 1,818 certificates and degrees during the two graduation ceremonies.
The college will honor the 2017 recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award, who will carry the banner as the faculty enters the Texan Dome. Also, the departmental chairpersons and instructional deans will select candidates for graduation to carry the divisional banners in the Commencement processional.
The banner bearers in the morning ceremony will be Division of Arts and Sciences – Sara Marshall, candidate for the Associate of Arts in Photojournalism degree from Andrews. Division of Health Occupations – Boyd Jackson and Shanna Jackson, candidates for the Associate degree in Nursing from Lubbock. Division of Technical Education – Cameron L. Baker, candidate for the Associate of Applied Arts degree in Commercial Music from San Angelo.
The banner bearers in the afternoon ceremony will be Division of Arts and Sciences – Cassidy Cheyenne Britt, candidate for the Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Lubbock. Division of Health Occupations – Ashton Bailey Jeter, candidate for the Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology from Lovington, N.M. Division of Technical Education – Santos Chavez, candidate for the Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Manufacturing/Emerging Technologies from Plainview.
