Commedia was developed during the Renaissance Period, and it was very popular during the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe. Most of Commedia had the same characters. These included a young couple, who are the only characters that don’t wear masks at all. It also includes a Dottore (a doctor from Bologna) and a Pantalone (a foolish old man). Each character has a specific mask and costume designed for them. The play is a fast-paced farce. While based on centuries-old ideas, the play is a modern take on them.
