SPC Workforce Development offers Certified Nurse Aide class starting Jan. 16  

 

LUBBOCK – South Plains College Lubbock Career and Technical Center will offer a Certified Nurse Aide course from Jan. 16 through March 28 in Room 116. The campus is located at 3907 Ave. Q. 

The class will meet from 4:45 p.m.. to 9:15 p.m.. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The instructor will be Janet Copeland. The cost is $300, and participants will receive 60 hours or 6.0 continuing education units. 

Special requirement and advanced registration procedures apply for most Allied Health courses. On-site registration will not be accepted for this course. Enrollment is limited to 10 students. Students will use the textbook, “Nursing Assistants: A Basic Guide Tenth Edition” which is not included in the course fee. The total tuition due upon enrollment is $500, which includes the $200 cost for Clinicals. 

Certified Nurse Aide Clinical is a health-related experience that enables students to apply specialized occupation theory, skills and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. This course is required for all students takin the Certified Nurse Aide class. Clinicals will be conducted Feb. 10 through March 6 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. off campus. Participants will earn 40 hours or 4.0 CEUs. 

Students will learn the necessary skills to work in long-term care, home health or hospital environments. A method of instruction providing detailed education, training and work-based experience, and direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. 

Upon completion of the 60 hours of classroom and 40 hours of clinicals, each student will be required to take the State of Texas Certified Nurse Aide Competency Examination. 

Students must provide proof of immunization for Hepatitis B Series, 2-MMR’s since 1981, Tetanus no older than eight years, Varicella shot or proof of illness and a current negative TB test no older than 6 months prior to the first class. A flu shot will be required of all students enrolled between Oct. 1 and March 31. A valid state issued photo identification and social security card prior to enrollment (names must match on both documents and not expire before the end of class) will be accepted for this class. 

IMPORTANT: Students will not be allowed to register or pay for this class without all requirements being met. Criminal background checks will be performed for all students. NO REFUND will be given for criminal background checks. CPR certification is required and it is not included in tuition fees. Other supplies not included in the tuition and fees are a Blood Pressure Cuff and Stethoscope.
