SPC announces winners of third-annual Songwriter Competition

LEVELLAND – South Plains College’s Creative Arts Department deemed Jack White and Shelby Stidham of Frenship High School and SPC student Nairely Chavez of Midland winners of the third-annual Songwriter Competition on April 3. White and Stidham placed in the high school division (age 14 to 18), and Chavez placed in the adult division (age 19 and older).

The purpose of the event was to foster the songwriting community in West Texas. SPC faculty judged the song entries and selected finalists to perform at the competition.

Finalists in the adult division included Russell Joe Thompson, Chris Mitchell, Emma Meek, Elliot Brooker and Josh Rodriguez. Finalists in the high school division included Dakota Duncan, Jarrett Wideman, Ashley Zeigler Johnson, Jeanah Gregory and Drake Cagle.
