South Plains College to honor 13 retirees on May 5

 

LEVELLAND – On May 5, South Plains College will recognize nine seven employees who retired during the spring 2017 semester. The retirees combined for 237 years of service to SPC and each played a vital role in the success the college as well as the thousands of students who pass through its doors each year.  

The retirees will be honored with a reception at 1:30 p.m.. on May 5 (Friday) in the Sundown Room. 

The retirees are Elise Brown, Leslie Downs, Dan English, Dr. Sally Good, Angela Heath, Jo Beth Horney, Schahara Hudelson, Phyllis Kennon, Janie McNutt, Eva Ramos, Stan Smith, Tom Stalcup and Christine Tafoya. 

Browne, Department Coordinator and Associate Professor of Associate Degree Nursing, will retire with 33 years of service. Her last day on campus will be May 15, 2017. 

Downs, Associate Professor of English, is retiring with 13 years of service. She began working at South Plains College on Aug. 18, 2004. Her last day on campus will be May 15. Downs plans to  travel, read, get involved in her church, study and take classes. 

English, Assistant Professor of Government, is retiring after 23 years of service. He began working for SPC on July 7, 1994. His last day on campus will be Aug. 19. He plans to teach online courses this summer and live between his homes in Lubbock and Albuquerque, N.M. 

Dr. Good, Professor of English, will retire with 5 years of service. She started working at the College on Aug. 27, 2012. Her last day on campus will be May 15. She plans to spend her time cooking and possibly turn it into another career.   

Heath, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts, is retiring with 10 years of service. She started her career at SPC on Aug. 15, 2007. Her last day on campus will be Aug. 16. 

Horney, Professor of Mathematics, is retiring with 29 years of service. She started working for SPC on Aug. 18, 1988. Her last day on campus is May 12. She plans to settle into a more peaceful existence with no grading involved. 

Hudelson, Assistant Professor of English, is retiring with 22 years of service. She began her career at South Plains College on June 25, 1990. Her last day on campus will be May 15. Hudelson plans spend more time with her family, finish authoring the books she has in progress and continue to promote music both online and in real time.           

Kennon, Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Technical Graphics and Design, is retiring with 14 years of service. She began working at South Plains College on Aug. 20, 2003. Her last day on campus will be May 31. She plans to keep on reading science fiction, mysteries and biographies as well as anything else that draws her interest. 

McNutt, Associate Professor of Foreign Language, is retiring with 20 years of service. She began working at South Plains College on Aug. 20, 2001. Her last day on campus will be May 15. 

Ramos, Custodian at SPC Reese Center, is retiring with 15 years of service. She started working at SPC on Jan. 3, 2002. Her last day on campus was April 20. She plans to enjoy life and relish the role of caretaker for her grandchildren. 

Smith, Associate Professor of Physics, is retiring with 18 years of service. He started working at the college on Aug. 19, 1999. His last day on campus will be May 15. He plans to continue as an adjunct instructor, and teach physics and engineering. He also will be a silent partner on his son’s organic farm. 

Stalcup, Associate Professor of Video Production Technology, is retiring with 18 years of service. He started working at SPC on Jan. 11, 1999. His last day on campus will be May 15.                                                            

Tafoya, Admission Technical Support Specialist, is retiring with 17 years of service. She started working at SPC on Oct. 10, 2000. Her last day on campus was Feb. 28.
