Technical Education Programs at South Plains College
South Plains College’s Technical Education Division offers high-quality, college-level programs designed in collaboration with industry experts, educators, and business leaders. These programs prepare students for in-demand careers and provide hands-on training to help you succeed in today’s job market.
Students can earn an Associate of Applied Arts (AAA) degree, Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, or a Certificate of Proficiency in their chosen field. While these programs are not primarily intended for transfer toward a bachelor’s degree, many universities accept certain technical courses for credit. Students interested in transferring should confirm course acceptance with their chosen university.
For those pursuing an AAS degree, South Plains College offers the option to earn an Enhanced Skills Certificate in specific Tech Prep articulated programs. This advanced credential combines specialized technical skills with a strong academic foundation—ideal for transitioning into the workforce or continuing your education.
We also offer occupational certificate programs designed for fast career preparation. Most of these one-year programs deliver focused training in specialized fields, helping graduates enter the workforce quickly. All programs are approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the State Approval Agency for the Veterans Administration.
With instructor approval, students may receive advanced standing in certain programs based on prior experience or demonstrated skills, eliminating the need to repeat training they have already mastered. Competency standards for graduation are set by advisory committees made up of local employers, business leaders, and industry professionals, ensuring that your training meets real-world expectations.
South Plains College’s Technical Education programs are offered at multiple locations, including the Levelland Campus, Lubbock Career and Technical Center, Reese Center, and Plainview Center—all under the guidance of the Dean of Technical Education.
