Prophetic Turns to Profitable

 Cody Flores, staff writer

Anyone who believes that psychics can really communicate with the dead should not be allowed to procreate.

A belief in this type of thing is something that just doesn't need to be passed down. We have a term for people who hear mysterious voices in their heads. They’re called schizophrenics. These people aren't communicating with the dead. They’re merely performing magic tricks for the dumb and the gullible, along with the people who can't come to terms and cope with lost loved ones.

Of course, they are going to believe these hacks. Psychic "mind readers" target the vulnerable, the helpless and the weak. When hit with something such as death, people often look for closure in any way they can, even if it is agreeing to believe that random shmoes have the power to communicate with the dead. Conveniently for the psychics, these people will also pay whatever is needed.

Psychics are sick and twisted. They are nothing more than magicians. The number of people watching these con artists in awe is growing larger than the people watching in disgrace. Why are more and more people choosing to be stupid?

If I stand in an audience with hundreds of people and say that I'm picking up a T sounding name, someone named Tim or maybe Timmy, what are the chances that someone can relate? I'd say pretty good. Tim doesn't even have to be a dead person. Maybe the person named Tim is in the audience, or maybe a relative or close friend. Once someone responds to the name Tim, the psychic has his fish hooked and isn't letting it get away. Starting with something vague such as a simple name is a good way to trick people into believing the horrible lies.

If Psychics are really talking to the dead, why can't they point out everything that a dead person might want to tell their loved ones? If I'm dead and I get a chance to talk to my family again, I'm going to want to say more than don't worry about me, I'm fine. This is one of the many general lines that "dead people" tend to say according to some of these psychics who claim they can communicate with the ciseased. When you die, why change the way you communicate with your family?  Why do psychics continue to beat around the bush and ask a serious of questions? You have the power to talk to the dead, you don't need extra help from me.

Telling me my kid had an untimely death is not fascinating; it's simply probable. What 12-year-old kid's death isn't untimely? That's like saying the war is tragic. Of course it's tragic; it's a war. Telling a 90-year-old woman her diseased husband lived a long, happy life is simply a reasonable conclusion.

Seeing psychics on television is amazing isn't it? The problem is, if you saw the broadcast live and in whole, you wouldn't be quite as astounded. Editing is a beautiful thing for phonies like the psychic. If they mess up, they certainly aren't going to show it on T.V.

Another tool used is the contract. People attending psychic shows must sign a written agreement that states that they cannot discuss the show they just watched outside of the building. Psychics want you to come to their shows, but you just can't tell anyone what kind of scam it is.

Why stop there? How about hiring payed actors? Yeah, that's a perfect idea. Hire someone to act like they've never met you, and then talk to their "dead relative." If that doesn't work, then hire the same people to mingle with the audience members before the show, and get them to explain why they are there. Then, fill the psychic in, and let him or her do the rest.

There are many unanswered questions in this world such as, "Why are we here, and where are we going?" But if people continue to believe in things such as psychics, those answers will never be found. They aren't just lying to us, they are slowing down the process of mankind. When a loved one is lost, people get scared. When magicians such as the psychic say they can offer "closure and a better understanding," we tend to want to believe them. The fact is, psychics only offer false hope and a belief in something that isn't real. Whatever happens in life and after it is more important than these hacks.
