Symphonic Band gears up for Dec. 8 performance
The
South Plains College Symphonic Band will be performing on Dec. 8 at the
Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The
program is entitled “Contemporary Treatments of Medieval Themes.” Pieces
which will be performed include “Color” by Bob Margolis, selected movements
from “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orgg, excerpts from “Lord of the Rings” by
Johan De Meij and the traditional song “Greensleeves.”
Symphonic Band Director Lynda Reid said that the musicians have enjoyed
getting ready for the performance.
“The
students have enjoyed preparing the music and learning the link to the
Medieval period,” she said.
The
performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for the concert, but
the band is asking patrons to bring a can of food to be donated to the local
food bank.
