Pat Green Rocks Lubbock Music Festival

Center Stage

Shea Chancey, staff writer

The Depot District had a busy weekend as their streets while hosting the Lubbock Music Festival featuring many loved artist Joe Ely one night and Pat Green the second night.

Before the concert started many people gathered around the stage waiting anxiously to see Texas country singer Pat Green and his six-piece band.

The concert started at 8:30 p.m. and lasted until 10 p.m. Green who graduated from Texas Tech University, took the stage and the crowd as he began the show. An estimated 12,000 people of all ages gathered on the street, filling more than a street block.

The rain held off and there was a chill in the air that many people didn’t notice and were going to ignore until Green got off stage for good. Green’s outstanding music and the many cups of beer kept everyone on their feet singing and having an excellent time.

Green came on stage singing songs from his past three CDs, such as “Baby Doll,”  “Wave on Wave,”  “The Lucky Ones,” “ George’s Bar,” “College,” “ Don’t Break my Heart Again,” “ Three Days,” along with many of the other songs that have been played on the radio more than once. For those who didn’t know Green before the concert, they certainly know him now and can sing more than one of his songs.

Green’s band consisted of his great violinist Brendon Anthony, awesome drummer Justin Pollard and bass guitarist Michael Tarabay, who had great rhythmic beats. With lots of room to entertain, electric guitarist Brett Danaher played away, along with guitarist David Newhauser.

It was the best free entertaining concert that anyone could have attended. The longer he was on stage, the more the crowd wanted Green to perform, bringing more and more people to come see what all the commotion was about.

He kept the energy all the way through his set, making it fun and fast-paced with songs such as, “Over and Over”, “Take Me to a Dance Hall,“ and “Who’s To Say.” He got the crowd to sing along in many of his songs and left no moment for silence.

Green was born in San Antonio, was brought up in Waco, and is one of eight siblings. His musical career began at the age of 18, while attending Tech. He played at many clubs and bars when he was first starting out. He put out his first independent record in 1995. Ever since, Green has been selling out venues, including Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth.

He released nine CDs: “Live at Billy Bob’s Texas”, “Dancehall Dreamer,” “Carry On,” “Here We Go,”  “George’s Bar,” “Songs We Wish We’d Written,” with Cory Morrow, “Three Days,”  “Wave on Wave,” and his most recent, “Lucky Ones.”

Every time Green gets on stage, he brings energy to the stage and sets up his amazing performance.
