GENERAL
The Office of Development is responsible for resource development, fund raising and coordinating alumni affairs in accordance with the college's advancement objectives. The Director of Development reports directly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
FUND RAISING
The Office of Development plans, organizes and executes activities that result in voluntary, tax-deductible contributions to the South Plains College Foundation. Donations are generated through direct mail appeals, special events, grant requests and personal contacts.
ADMINISTRATION
The Office of Development issues receipts to donors, deposits monetary gifts and invests endowments with local banks seeking maximum interest income. The office maintains a computerized accounting system and records of donor sponsored scholarship programs. Financial operations conform with Internal Revenue Service regulations so as to qualify for tax exemption 501(c)3 (charitable organization). A CPA firm submits Form 990 to the IRS. Their report is also given to the college President. The Director provides annual performance assessments to the South Plains College Foundation Board of Directors and members of the Foundation who govern its operations according to written by-laws. This office also handles the administration of all scholarships, i.e., the issuance of awards budgets, processing of awards into student financial accounts, following up with students regarding this, writing letters of gratitude to donors, following up with donors and interfacing with parents.
ALUMNI
Information pertaining to former students is filed in the Office of Development. Annually in May new graduates are contacted regarding registration with the Alumni Association. In conjunction with the Marketing and Recruitment Office a newsletter, "Mosaics," is published and distributed three times a year to alumni, donors and VIP's in business, industry and agriculture. Registered alumni are solicited annually for contributions.
