TEXT BOOK ADOPTION

Basic text adoptions are made by the collective faculty in a department for the purpose of providing the best possible instruction to students. Because of many changes and new methods being developed constantly, textbook changes are not only inevitable, but are also desirable when thoughtfully considered.

Because of the high cost of textbooks to students, every effort should be made to allow the bookstore to repurchase used books to keep the cost of books for students as reasonable as possible. Therefore, the following policy on textbooks is to be followed:

1. Basic text adoptions are made for a minimum period of three (3) calendar years.

2. Textbook changes are made by recommendation of the department through the departmental chairperson. The departmental chairperson approves the change and forwards the information to the bookstore manager who takes appropriate action.

3. Advance notice of changes in basic texts should be provided to the bookstore at least one full semester in advance of the change.

4. Most publishers furnish desk copies of textbooks to faculty members using them. Faculty members may obtain desk copies by writing to the publisher or by purchasing at net cost a text at the bookstore, and then requesting a new desk copy from the publisher. When the new desk copy is received from the publisher, it may be taken to the bookstore to replace the previously purchased text, and a full refund will be made.

BOOK BUY BACK

The bookstore will buy used books at the end of each semester. Books to be used the following semester will be purchased. Occasionally, a book is overstocked or discontinued and cannot be bought back.

Book buy back takes place near the end of each regular and summer session. Announcements at the Bookstore will specify the exact times.

Students selling books back must have purchase receipt to verify that they in fact purchased the books from South Plains College Bookstore originally.

BOOK REFUND

In order to receive 100% of the register receipt price, one must have the purchase receipt where a book is returned for exchange or refund. New books must be returned during the first two weeks of class during the regular semester; within the first week for summer sessions.

To be exchanged, new books must not have any writing (not even in pencil); otherwise, they are considered used and subject to used book policy and procedures.

DISCOUNT POLICY

Departments and South Plains College employees are allowed a 10% discount on purchases from the Bookstore.

OTHER SERVICES

The bookstore will special order books for faculty and staff.
