GENERAL INFORMATION

Continuing Education at South Plains College in Levelland consists of evening college credit courses, vocational short courses, community service activity attendance, industrial start-up training,  off-campus offerings, with the exception of Lubbock and Plainview. The programs are under the direction of the Dean of Continuing and Distance Education. The offices for these activities are located in Room 118 and 118E of the Technical Arts Building.

In Lubbock, the Associate Dean of Workforce Development administers the Continuing Education Program. The primary responsibility of this program is to provide adult vocational and vocational short courses, with an emphasis on adult vocational courses. The Office of Continuing Education in Lubbock is located at the Byron Martin-Advanced Technology Center in Lubbock at 34th and Ave. Q.

The Continuing Education offices in Levelland and Lubbock work closely together to avoid unnecessary duplication of effort.

VOCATIONAL SHORT COURSES

Vocational short courses are offered by both the Levelland and Lubbock Continuing Education offices. These courses are for vocational upgrading, job entry training, or for some other type of vocationally related skill training. Fees for these courses are suggested by the Dean of Continuing and Distance Education and approved by the Board of Regents.

A VOCATIONAL SHORT COURSES

Vocational short courses are sometimes referred to as community services courses. Courses in this category are primarily for personal and / or cultural enrichment. Summer activities such as athletic camps, children’s workshops, and swimming lessons, are included in this particular category as well as the many courses offered each year for the adult community.

COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITY ATTENDANCE

As a comprehensive community college, South Plains College provides its facilities for various community service activities. Included in this is the public use of our track, jogging trail, basketball playoff games, swimming and many other activities.

INDUSTRIAL START-UP

When new industry comes to a community, South Plains College, through cooperation with appropriate agencies, can develop and supervise the necessary training to get the business started. Industry needing information about industrial start-up training should contact the Continuing Education Office in Levelland or Lubbock.

OFF-CAMPUS LOCATIONS

In an effort to take education to the people, South Plains College can offer classes in area towns on the South Plains. Generally speaking, a minimum of 10 persons is needed to offer a course off-campus, provided the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved the location.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNIT

The Continuing Education Unit (C.E.U.) is a nationally recognized measure of the amount of organized study a person has completed in a non-credit course. One C.E.U. is granted for every 10-clock hours of successful participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction.

LIST OF COURSE OFFERINGS

1. Credit Courses

The Dean of Enrollment Services publishes and distributes a combined class schedule that includes all credit courses offered each semester or term at Levelland, Reese Center, and the ATC in Lubbock.

2. Evening Schedule

The Division of Continuing and Distance Education publishes a schedule for the fall and spring semesters that lists the short courses offered. The schedule is distributed as an insert in local and surrounding newspapers and hand delivered to selected sites within the college district. A separate one-page announcement flyer is made for each course and distributed internally and externally upon request.

The ATC publishes a list of short course offerings each fall, spring and summer. Individual announcement flyers are also distributed to selected areas and individuals. Both the Levelland and Lubbock schedules of classes are combined to achieve maximum marketing effect in the service area.
